Underground tunnelling environments utilise a variety of different types of mobile and static plant. The new BS6164:2019 standard encourages that electric and diesel-powered units (working within the tunnelling environment) should have fire suppression systems installed. Since its introduction, Fireward have supplied the Reacton fire suppression system to a variety of customers.
Fires in any environment are dangerous and can have life-changing consequences. In an underground environment, with few escape routes, the need for fire suppression systems are vital for the safety of the operators on site.
Grydale Europe, part of the Grydale Group, supplies mobile and static dust collection units for a host of industries such as tunnelling, civil construction and bulk storage handling. Fireward have recently completed the first install on a JMS-6-MES, a dust collection system, which operates for the HS2 Project.
Fireward have installed a fully automatic suppression system protecting the hydraulics, motors and dust receiver housing of the JMS-6-MES. This system utilises Dry Powder, performance testing shows that Dry Powder is the single most effective agent for rapid-fire knockdown. In addition to this system, we have installed a separate Novec™ 1230™ clean agent system, which protects the three electrical cabinets. Novec™ 1230™ is a fluorinated ketone that is stored as a liquid and discharged as a gas. It is electrically non-conductive and leaves no residue after discharge, making it perfect to protect the electrical components on a JMS-6-MES.
